Soursop

Guanabana/ Guyabano
 Anona muricata Linn.

Native to tropical America the soursop was introduced in the Philippines most likely by the Spaniards. The largest among the anonas family, it is heart shaped, deep green, with numerous soft spines on the surface.

The flesh is white, cottony in texture, juicy, and highly aromatic with numerous brown seeds embedded in it. The flavor suggests that of the pineapple and mango. It is in season from September to January.

The Sweet pulp is used to make juice as well as candies, sorbets, and ice cream flavorings. Nutritionally, the fruit is high in carbohydrates, particularly fructose.
